Matjhabeng workers continue with protest─── 14:09 Tue, 11 Jan 2022
Matjhabeng municipal employees held demonstrations outside the municipality’s offices in Welkom today.
The demonstration came in the wake of Monday's stand-off during a meeting that ended with a protest by municipal workers, displeased that their concerns raised during the meeting were allegedly not answered.
They resolved to down tools, and further demand a meeting with the Executive Mayor.
The workers say they’ll continue to stage demonstrations in Welkom until all parties have engaged in talks.
One of the convenors, Potsotso Liphoko, has said that he and other protest leader have already been issued with suspension letters by the municipality, allegedly for encouraging and instructing employees to embark on an illegal strike.
