Mangaung to be revamped in 100 days | News Article

The Mangaung Metro’s Executive Mayor, Mxolisi Siyonzana, has outlined the plans he has for the cash-strapped municipality during his first 100 days in office, which includes reviving major stalled projects.

The completion of the reconstruction process of Moshoeshoe Road in Bloemfontein is, among others, one of the major stalled projects Siyonzana is set to tackle. He states the 100-day plan will include the reopening of main roads to ease traffic flow. In addition, concerns over failed roads will be addressed and maintenance projects of roads will be detailed in due course.

Residents of Bloemfontein have been complaining about the unfinished Moshoeshoe Road, and the completion of the road is hoped to help restore community confidence in municipal leadership.

Siyonzana is also set to report back to the community about the status of the Bloemfontein Zoo within his first 100 days in office. This is after the Department of Small Business Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (Destea) temporarily closed the gates to the public in 2019. To make a decision, he will engage all relevant stakeholders on the legacy and relocation of the zoo.

The multi-story taxi complex that was completed 11 years ago has also found its way back into the spotlight. The building that has cost the Mangaung Metro Municipality R400 million, is still not utilised.

Siyonzana stated during his address that the Bloemfontein Taxi Rank has been standing empty for quite some time now and they will facilitate the resolution of this matter.
