The MEC for Education in the Free State, whose department has now achieved the top spot for three years running, says their reign in the National Senior Certificate (NSC) exam is a result of hard work.

At the Free State's Well Done Function held at the Bloemfontein-based Central University of Technology (CUT) on Friday morning, MEC Tate Makgoe tells OFM News that the department had dedicated time to make sure that the results are attained. Makgoe says they mobilised communities, churches, school governing bodies (SGB), parents themselves, and counsellors to support their cause of achieving the top spot with regards to the matric results.

This year the Free State leads the pack with an 85.7% pass rate, with Motheo and Fezile Dabi amongst the three top-performing districts across the country. Meanwhile, 130 top matric achievers will be awarded for their stellar performance in the NSC matric results.

In a statement, the Free State Department of Education says "on the day, the province will not only announce the grade 12's results but will also recognise hard-working schools and the 130 learners who outperformed others, who are deemed the crème de la crème in the province, and reward them with certificates, trophies and prizes at the Well Done Function."
