The Northern Cape Department of Education has successfully placed learners who applied on the Online Admission System in schools.

According to the press statement released by the department, 971 Grade 7 learners who did not apply for Grade 8 on the Online Admission System have been placed manually by District Offices to ensure at least all Grade 7 learners in the system are placed. All the other learners in the middle grades, which were not managed on the Online Admission System, have been placed by the schools after the progressions in December 2021.

All 9 421 Grade R, 3 925 Grade 1, and 11 203 Grade 8 learners who applied on the Online Admission System have been placed. To accommodate any other parent who has still not registered, the Northern Cape Department of Education has allowed schools to manage the walk-in applications themselves in January, based on their available capacities to prevent parents/groups from going to the district or the provincial offices. To date, 904 walk-in applications have been processed by schools.

The department further states some of the schools in the town of Kimberley remain the biggest flashpoint due to the high demand for ex-model C schools. English medium schools in the Frances Baard District are experiencing a group of parents who are not satisfied with the schools the department has placed their children in. These parents flock to their schools of choice to plead for space.
