A North West woman is said to have suffered critical injuries during a dog attack on Tuesday morning in Potchefstroom.

The 47-year-old woman, who is a resident at Miederpark, is said to be in a critical condition at a local hospital after she was attacked by a pack of three dogs. According to the ER24 spokesperson, Russel Meiring, the woman was found lying inside her home by the front door.

Meiring says the woman was found in a critical condition after suffering numerous bite wounds over most of her body. Meiring says according to information at their disposal, these dogs apparently attempted to attack another individual - a man who attempted to jump over the fence to rescue the injured woman.

“Bystanders on the scene explained that the man shot at the dogs as they tried to attack him. ER24 and Mooirivier Beskerming arrived at 08h26 to find a woman lying inside the home by the front door.

The woman was treated and provided with advanced life support interventions before she was transported to a nearby hospital for urgent care,” he adds.

It is understood that the next-door neighbour heard a woman screaming and jumped over the fence to assist.

Meiring further adds the local authorities and Potchefstroom Animal Welfare were on the scene for further investigations.
