The Mangaung Metro Municipality (MMM) and the bulk water supplier Bloem Water are satisfied with the water results they have received.

According to Bloem Water’s Maruping Rapudungoane, the Institute for Groundwater Studies' (IGS) laboratory at the University of the Free State (UFS) found no faults in the water supplied in Mangaung. The water quality adheres to the SANS 241 standard and is safe for consumption. Water testing follows after residents in Botshabelo, Free State, complained about discoloured water coming from their taps.

At the time, both the municipality and Bloem Water did not know what was wrong with the water. Rapudungoane informed OFM News that they have sent water samples for testing to figure out what was the issue. The MMM’s spokesperson, Qondile Khedama, also confirmed that they are doing their level best to sort it out.

The MMM previously revealed to the public that they will temporarily be using granular chlorine to clean water for human consumption. The use of granular chlorine comes as an alternative to chlorine gas, as the metro’s supplier experienced a shortage.

The metro assured the public that water quality will be monitored to ensure that it is safe for human consumption.
