FS warned of disruptive rain | News Article

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has sent warnings of disruptive rain and severe thunderstorms in various parts of Central South Africa.

According to a meteorologist at the SAWS, Axinia Sethabela, disruptive rain is expected in the western and southern parts of the Free State over the next few days. She says residents should also be prepared for some flooding.

“There are some safety precautions, especially for motorists. People should avoid driving in the rain. From Thursday to Saturday, I think there will most definitely be some damages to the infrastructure [because of the expected] disruptive rain,” she said.

Sethabela says the expected heavy rainfall might be due to a tropical cyclone that is active. This, as it has hit the east of Madagascar. She says that by next week Wednesday provinces such as KwaZulu-Natal and Mpumalanga will experience heavy rain as the cyclone will be east of South Africa.
