Free State towns to get clean water─── TSHEHLA KOTELI 13:03 Fri, 04 Feb 2022

Sedibeng Water is expected to receive chlorine this afternoon to disinfect and purify water to comply with the set drinking water standards.
This follows after water production had to stop at treatment plants due to insufficient chlorine. The shortage of the chemical resulted in residents in Welkom, Odendaalsrus, Virginia, Hennenman, Ventersburg, and Allanridge who had to survive without water. Production of water will resume as soon as the chlorine arrives, however, consumers must take note that it will take some time to have sufficient water in all affected areas. The manufacturer of the chlorine liquid gas has been experiencing problems at their plant and therefore has not been able to supply to any customer on time.
Mangaung Metro Municipality has recently had to use granular chlorine to clean water for human consumption on a temporary basis due to this shortage. The metro’s spokesperson, Qondile Khedama, assured the public that water quality will be monitored to ensure that it is safe for human consumption.
