MMM to beef up security after violent disruptions at its headquarters─── TSHEHLA KOTELI 06:34 Tue, 08 Feb 2022
The newly appointed Acting City Manager, Teboho Maine, is expected to re-evaluate the security of the Mangaung Metro Municipality’s entire workforce.
This follows violent disruptions at the metro’s headquarters at the Bram Fischer building on Monday.
According to the metro’s spokesperson, Qondile Khedama, the disruption left one employee injured.
The invasion of the headquarters’ offices happened during a time the metro’s Executive Mayor, Mxolisi Siyonzana, was in a meeting with community stakeholders.
Although some employees were left unharmed, they were threatened by the group of people.
The metro condemns any violent social mobilisation.
Khedama further explained that the metro’s leadership understands that protesting and social mobilisation enable unhappy citizens to communicate their dissatisfaction. However, a structured approach is also encouraged, thus Siyonzana’s ongoing engagements.
Siyonzana is currently on a mission of ensuring a social contract that brings together all the relevant stakeholders and communities to address service delivery, and build a local economy that creates jobs and sustains businesses.
