The issue of femicide continues to raise its ugly head in the Free State with numerous reports on women killings being made recently.

Recently the Bloemfontein police spokesperson, Thabo Covane, announced that the police were on a manhunt for the suspects involved in the killing of a 65-year-old who was found murdered in her home in JB Mafora in Bloemfontein.

This is but one of many cases of murders of women which has been reported by the police across the towns and cities in the province, mostly troubled by violent crimes.

Meanwhile, Premier Sisi Ntombela will today visit the family of the slain 65-year–old woman. Ntombela in a statement says violence against women, children and the vulnerable continues to affect society.

"The deceased was last seen alive on Sunday 6 February 2022 and neighbours made the grisly discovery on Tuesday 8 February after noticing that her door had been tampered with. The police were immediately called and the bludgeoned body was discovered," she adds.

Ntombela adds that this pandemic stubbornly refuses to detach itself from society and has deeply entrenched itself.

"This sickening tragedy is yet another painful reminder of the task we are faced with, and one which we dare not tire in speaking out against," she further adds.
