Protesting residents of Dealesville in the Free State have handed their memorandum of demands to the Tokologo Local Municipality on Tuesday morning.

The DA’s Provincial Leader, Roy Jankielsohn, says community members of Dealesville have been without water for the past two weeks and this has ignited a protest against poor service delivery. He says for the past two years, residents of Dealesville had to deal with poor electricity and water supply, as well as deteriorating infrastructure which includes poor road conditions, amongst other issues. Jankielsohn says that this has led to job losses as businesses have been affected by poor service delivery.

“The people of Dealesville have come together - black and white - to protest against the poor services that they are receiving here and that is what they are marching for today. They delivered the memorandum to the municipality this morning, demanding better services, and they are not asking for much. They’re asking the municipality to deliver to them their constitutional rights, which is water and an environment free of pollution, and a safe environment,” he adds.

OFM News earlier reported that Jankielsohn will be presenting a Water Status Report to the media and residents, regarding reasons for ongoing poor services and suggestions for a recovery plan that has been sent to both the Premier and the MEC for Cogta.
