Mmabatho Nursing College project: NW Health to address challenges─── KEKELETSO MOSEBETSI 13:45 Tue, 15 Feb 2022
The North West Department of Health has confirmed concerns over the unfinished infrastructure project at the Mmabatho Nursing College.
Questions have recently been raised over the delayed construction project that was initiated in 2016 at the college. The spokesperson of Health in the North West, Tebogo Lekgethwane, tells OFM News that they are aware of the challenges at the nursing college and they are taking steps to remedy those challenges.
Lekgethwane added the department discovered that the project was delayed due to poor management from the side of the project managers. According to him, the department also discovered that processes were not properly followed and this led to the suspension of project managers.
“The concerns by the North West Legislature over the delays at the construction of the Mmabatho Nursing College are genuine because the department shares those same concerns. But on the side of the department, we know the challenges and we are taking steps to remedy those challenges,” says Lekgethwane.
He adds that the suspension of project managers has also impacted the progress of the project, as the department had to appoint other contractors.
OFM News previously reported that the North West Legislature’s Health Committee had lodged an investigation into the delayed construction at the Mmabatho Nursing College.
A member of the North West Provincial Legislature, Gavin Edwards, said that the Legislature’s committee will convene an urgent meeting with the department on the matter.
Meanwhile, Lekgethwane says that the department will try to fast-track the completion of the project.
