Opposition parties deem #NWSOPA directionless─── 07:05 Sun, 20 Feb 2022
Opposition parties in the North West deem Premier Bushy Maape's State of Province Address (Sopa) boring and directionless.
In reaction to the Sopa, Democratic Alliance (DA) Member of North West Provincial Legislature, Freddy Sonakile, says that Maape has brought nothing new to the table. Sonakile said that he expected Maape to speak about recommendations and implementation of previous summits, rather than speak about planned summits. He said that he also expected the premier to give feedback on last year's forensic investigations and audits on corruption instead of speaking about the Zondo Commission's reports.
"It was the most uninspiring, boring and directionless speech that I have ever heard in history. The speech mainly spoke about summits. I mean we are on the 6th administration now. Since 1994 we've been having summits. The purpose of a summit is to have a summit and out of the summit you come up with recommendations," adds Sonakile.
Meanwhile, the Economic Freedom Fighters' (EFF) Provincial Secretary, Papiki Babuile, shared the same sentiments with the DA's Sonakile on the North West Sopa, citing that the premier's focus was only on the summit. Babuile said that he expected timeframes on service delivery issues and the creation of jobs, including details of how they will be implemented. He concluded by saying that this is the worst Sopa, as there is no clear plan with regards to job creation and proper service delivery issues.
