This was after the South African Weather Services had issued an impact-based warning – level 2 - for severe thunderstorms expected on Thursday and Friday. The metro’s spokesperson, Qondile Khedama, says that residents should reduce speed and switch on headlights when driving while pedestrians should be careful when crossing the road and they should also avoid crossing rivers and streams where the water level is above their ankles.

He says that localised flash floods can be expected in low-lying areas, roads, and informal settlements. Khedama further urges households to open pathways to allow water to flow out of their yards.
