15 victims of NW accident to be buried | News Article

The last group of 15 people who died in a road accident on the R34 road between Bloemhof and Schweizer-Reneke in the North West, will be laid to rest on Sunday during a mass funeral.

Four of the victims were buried on Saturday at Myra village in the Greater Taung Local Municipality, as well as at various homesteads and gravesites in the Mamusa Local Municipality.

Today's mass funeral is being held at the Ipelegeng Multipurpose Centre in Schweizer-Reneke.

Nineteen people died following the tragic accident on the R34 road after a minibus taxi they were travelling in collided with a truck.

The police are investigating a case of culpable homicide.

Only three people, including a child, survived the tragic accident out of the 22 occupants who were in the minibus taxi.

The premier of the province, Bushy Maape, has since assembled a team of officials to assist the families of the 19 people who lost their lives in the horrific head-on collision.

He also visited the families of the deceased this week.

The deceased were travelling from Bloemhof after attending a wedding anniversary of a relative. They are from Ipelegeng Township in Schweizer Reneke in the Mamusa Local Municipality.

Fourteen of the deceased are from the same family.
