This is according to the spokesperson of the Department of Correctional Services (DCS), Singabakho Nxumalo, who revealed to OFM News earlier that two inmates had died after an alleged attack on an official on Sunday. According to Nxumalo, the police and the Judicial Inspection for Correctional Services (JICS) were informed of the incident and additional officials were deployed at the centre.

He said three inmates allegedly initiated an attack on an official with padlocks, and the situation got out of hand as other officials tried to defuse the situation. Nxumalo said that in their attempt to try and intervene, a scuffle between prisoners and prison orderlies ensued and this resulted in serious injuries to three inmates, eventually leading to the death of two inmates on their way to the hospital, while the other one remains in hospital.
