Free State Taxi operators in Matjhabeng have supposedly declared a planned taxi shutdown for Wednesday.
The message has been seen posted in taxi windows and is reportedly trending on various social media platforms.
Taxi operators are said to be unhappy with the poor condition of roads in Matjhabeng – particularly in the townships.
However, Zone 1 Taxi Rank Chairman Mosiuwa Mosesi and three other taxi ranks operating within Matjhabeng have issued a joint statement, emphatically stating they have no knowledge of a supposed shutdown.
They added such a shutdown would be illegal, and gave the assurance that there will be taxis operating tomorrow.
