In the video, the motorist can be heard yelling at the officer to go ahead and shoot him, as he had apparently threatened, with the officer responding by swearing at the man.

The incident presumably happened earlier this week in Thabong, Welkom.

According to police spokesperson Stephen Thakeng, the traffic officer alleged he was following a Toyota Avanza that was driving recklessly.

He reportedly pulled the vehicle over to issue the driver with a traffic fine.

Thakeng says the motorist approached the traffic officer and forcefully demanded his driver's license back.

Apparently the gear lever of the officer’s official vehicle and another parts of the car were damaged in the process.

The video was captured by bystanders, while the traffic officer called for back-up. OFM News removed the sound as it contained swearing.

According to Thakeng, the motorist tried to escape but was arrested in Section 2010 of Thabong, Welkom.

The 26-year-old motorist has since been charged with common assault, resisting arrest, and malicious damage to state property.

He briefly appeared in the Welkom Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.
