The Free State Department of Education MEC, Tate Makgoe, will on Tuesday, at HTS Welkom, launch a new campaign that stands against anti-social behaviour.
The formation of this campaign is influenced by multiple incidents which were reported to the department that alleges there is racism, assault and bullying in few schools located in the Lejweleputswa District.
The schools that the department will first give attention to is Wessels Maree Secondary School, Dagbreek Primary School, and Bothaville Hoërskool. Wessels Maree Secondary School has recently received attention after a video of a teacher violently pushing a learner in class went viral on social media.
The Congress of South African Students (Cosas) went to the school to deliver their demands in a memorandum.

Makgoe and senior management of the department will kick-start the provincial campaign by meeting the principals, deputy principals, SGBs of all the Lejweleputswa District former Model C schools.
The department will also use this campaign to implore learners to come to school every day and not drop out from schools.
Makgoe in a statement explains: “Together with our stakeholders which include school management teams, School Governing Bodies, South African Police Services, Department of Social Development, Department of Health we want to use this campaign to eradicate the scourge of subliminal and blatant racism, sexism, vandalism, assault, corporal punishment, sexual harassment, alcohol, and drug abuse as these anti-social behaviours disrupt learning and teaching in our schools”.
