NW bolsters its effort for clean governance─── LUCKY NKUYANE 09:21 Wed, 16 Mar 2022
The North West Provincial Government has bolstered its effort for clean governance by appointing 12 new Provincial Audit Committee members.
MEC for Finance Motlalepula Rosho says this is to ensure clean and accountable governance. A few of the functions the new committee members are expected to perform, include oversight of provincial departments towards good governance and service delivery.
This appointment of 12 committee members comes at a time when five provincial departments, including Health and Public Works, are under administration for failing to perform the basic function of service delivery. The new provincial audit committee members replaces a previous group whose term expired at the end of August 2021.
"An Audit Committee requires sound knowledge and relevant experience in any of the areas of finance, economic, legal, accounting, internal/external auditing, risk management, internal control, and ICT systems.
"The Audit Committee discharges its responsibilities in terms of the Audit Committee Charter, setting out the authority, purpose, responsibility and formal terms of reference and will meet at least four times a year. Amongst other criteria for the Audit Committee, Treasury Regulation 3.1.10 requires that the audit committee must, among others, review the effectiveness of internal control systems, the effectiveness of internal audit function, and the adequacy, reliability and accuracy of the financial information provided to management and other users of such information," she adds.
MEC Rosho has indicated that the appointed Committee is balanced and reflective of this requirement and that each appointed member brings a value-adding skillset in a particular area of expertise.
"We must not take for granted the importance of compliance in changing the lives of ordinary citizens. The Committee served the Province at a time when the province was placed under Section 100 of the Constitution but they still managed to do their best,” she further adds.
