Free State school rocked by food poisoning incident─── KEKELETSO MOSEBETSI 17:07 Thu, 17 Mar 2022
Seventeen learners from Ntemoseng Secondary school at Botshabelo in the Free State ended up in hospital due to alleged food poisoning yesterday.
According to the statement issued by Free State Department of Education, a grade 10 learner sold cakes to fellow pupils at the school. This is against the school's code of conduct.
Those learners who bought the cakes later showed symptoms of itching, headaches and hyperactivity.
The department states that the learner was questioned by police.
Free State Education MEC Tate Makgoe condemned the incident, stating that this should not be allowed on school premises.
Makgoe said he was informed that some learners are in critical condition, while others were reported to have recovered fully.
