Mangaung pressure group reluctant to move from MMM headquarters - PHOTOS─── 12:44 Wed, 23 Mar 2022
The Mangaung pressure group, known as Mangaung Concerned Community (MCC), seems undeterred to interrupt operations at the metro's headquarters.
This after OFM News previously reported that the group had barricaded the premises in an attempt to end the maladministration within the metro. The spokesperson of MCC, Themba Zweni, had told OFM News earlier that the group demands that the metro council be dissolved.
Meanwhile, the MCC's Thapelo Kgadi says that even though some of their members were arrested earlier on Wednesday, including Zweni, the group will not move from the premises until national government intervenes. OFM News is awaiting a response from the metro.
"We are still here and the police are also here. A few of our members were shot with rubber bullets, including two ladies. One of our members were manhandled and some were beaten. We will never leave this municipality until national government comes to dissolve the council," adds Kgadi.
The disruptions of operations at the metro's headquarters began on Tuesday as the group wanted to give their view of the council being compromised, and therefore demand that it must be dissolved.
The members of parliament and the Select Committee on Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Water and Sanitation in the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) lambasted the Mangaung Metro's executive mayor and senior management. The committee said in a statement that a meeting set to discuss the status quo at the metro was postponed initially to give the mayor, Mxolisi Siyonzana, and his team time to prepare answers for some of the burning questions.
This is a developing story.
