The MEC of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta), Mxolisi Dukwana, has lashed out at what he terms "personal interests" at ailing Free State municipalities.

During a presentation in the Free State Legislature's Fourth Raadsaal to members of Parliament and the National Council of Provinces' (NCOP) Select Committee on Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Water and Sanitation, Dukwana said these personal interests are standing in the way of service delivery.

Dukwana was speaking at the NCOP sitting where the Mangaung Metro Municipality, the Masilonyana Municipality, and the Kopanong Municipality will be doing presentations. Various Free State municipalities have been under scrutiny due to a lack of service delivery and this has led to recurring protests within the province.

OFM News previously reported that Dukwana wants to look into ethical leadership, to best serve residents across municipalities in the province. This after he had stated that the issue of ethical and courageous leadership has been raised before by the Auditor-General (AG). Dukwana previously stated that the provincial government needs to realise that its role does not end with them dealing with issues that arise.
