An investment by an international company is set to bring about a much-needed economic boost for the Northern Cape Province.

The Premier of the Northern Cape, Zamani Saul, welcomed the R7 billion investment made by Vedanta Zinc International (VZI) into the Gamberg Phase 2 project. According to the Northern Cape spokesperson for the Premier, Bronwyn Thomas-Abrams, the investment forms part of the second phase of the R21 billion commitment that was pledged by VZI at the inaugural investment conference held in 2019 in Gauteng. She says that the investment is set to significantly benefit the local community, and enhance supplier and enterprise development.

According to Thomas-Abrams, the investment bodes well for the reduction of poverty and unemployment in the province and will positively contribute to the provincial government’s vision of a modern, growing and successful province.

She says that 2000 to 2500 jobs will be created during the construction and 800 to 1000 permanent jobs will be created upon the completion of the project. She says that this will be in addition to 2700 people who are already employed through this project.
