The moment that all local music lovers have been waiting for, has finally arrived. The Central Music Awards ceremony, the first of its kind in Central South Africa, is set to happen Saturday 9 April at Pacofs’ Sand du Plessis Theatre.
Bloemfontein Courant recently reported on the awards, which are aimed at celebrating the work of music artists from the Free State, Northern Cape, Lesotho, and the southern parts of Gauteng. The three main categories are Male Artist of the Year, Female Artist of the Year, and Record of the Year.
Co-founder of the awards, Tshediso Thinane, previously said should Covid-19 regulations not allow them to host the awards live, they will do it virtually. But it seems the latest address by the South African President, Cyril Ramaphosa, has worked in their favour, as indoor venues are now allowed to host up to 50% of capacity.
“The awards have been established to recognise the hard work done by artists under the conditions of Covid-19. We want to celebrate the artists keeping us entertained under the lockdown regulations,” said the other co-founder, Lehlohonolo Mokoena.
