A former Free State municipal clerk is in hot water.

This, following her release on bail after she was slapped with fraud, theft and money laundering charges.

Forty-nine year old Heleen Cornelia Kapp was granted R500 bail after she was nabbed for allegedly stealing R190 000 from Dihlabeng Local Municipality's Fouriesburg Unit.

According to the provincial Hawks spokesperson, Christopher Singo, she stole the money from the unit for her own benefit between 2014 and 2017.

Singo adds that Kapp was arrested on Tuesday and her criminal case was postponed to Friday, April 29, in the Regional Court in Bethlehem.

Kapp appeared before the Fouriesburg Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, April 26.

It is alleged that Kapp, who was working as an administrative clerk at the Dihlabeng Local Municipality, was involved in fraudulent activities.

"The matter was reported to the Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation team based in Bloemfontein which culminated in the arrest of Kapp on Tuesday," Singo further adds.
