The premier of KwaZulu-Natal (KZN), Sihle Zikalala, has sent a token of appreciation to the Free State government, together with its search and rescue team.

This comes after a search and rescue team was deployed from the Free State to assist in recovering over 400 bodies, following devastating floods in KZN, which also left many injured and homeless.

According to a statement issued by the provincial government, the provincial Executive Council (EXCO) met with the search and rescue team where premier Sisi Ntombela praised them and gave assurance that their sacrifice will never go unnoticed.

Ntombela further sent gratitude to the people of the Free State who continued to lend a hand and donations to those affected by the KZN floods.

Meanwhile, former Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) MEC and current Interim Provincial Committee (IPC) spokesperson, Oupa Khoabane, had said that the ANC, along with others, established food banks to mobilise solidarity work in support of the victims of the floods in KwaZulu-Natal. This is after requesting community members to assist with donations.
