The Bojanala District Municipality in North West, which includes the Madibeng Local Municipality, has been place under administration for financial mismanagement.
Government’s intervention sees the municipality placed under administration in terms of section 139 (5) (a) and (c) of the constitution.
This comes just six months after the local government elections.
Former Finance MEC Mmoloki Cwaile previously in 2020 placed Madibeng under administration, and appointed Paul Maseko as the administrator.

Democratic Alliance (DA) caucus leader in Madibeng, Jan van Rhyn, meanwhile says they welcome the intervention and strongly support it, as they hope to see improvement.
He says the municipality's finances should improve and lead to better service delivery.
Spokesperson for Finance MEC Linah Miga, Tsholefelo Mathibedi, confirmed to OFM News that the municipality has been placed under administration, and that the provincial treasury will handle day to day operations.
Economic Freedom Fighters secretary in North West, Papiki Babuile, told OFM News it is high time municipalities appoint qualified people in managerial position to avoid collapse, and that politicians should stop interfering in the day to day operations of municipalities.
