Gauteng Education investigating death of Vaal learner─── 09:48 Tue, 10 May 2022
The Gauteng Department of Education has launched an investigation, following the death of a learner from Mqiniswa Primary school in Bophelong outside Vanderbijlpark in the Vaal Triangle.
The learner died after allegedly eating poisoned snacks on Friday.
A few more learners were rushed to various hospitals around the Vaal, where they were treated and later discharged.
Departmental spokesperson, Steve Mabona, during an exclusive interview with OFM News, reiterated the incident occurred before the lunch break, adding there is a possibility that the poison was ingested outside the school premises.
The department has conveyed its condolences to the family of the deceased, and will offer necessary psychological support to all affected by the incident.
