Children allegedly forced to smoke dagga, then raped─── 22:00 Tue, 10 May 2022
Two children aged 5 and 8 were allegedly forced to smoke dagga and were then raped in Makwane, Phuthaditjhaba, in the Free State.
The 5-year-old’s parent says she saw the child was not feeling well on Sunday morning, and when she asked her, the young girl explained how they got violated. The 8-year-old is a deaf girl who could not verbally explain what had happened, but could indicate with the use of physical illustrations what had happened.
SAPS spokesperson, Mmako Mophiring, explains that the suspect was first confronted by the parents, and he denied the allegations. The 5-year-old then told the parents again in front of the suspect what had happened. The girls were then taken to a local police station to open a case, and were taken to hospital for examinations thereafter.
Mophiring further explains that medical examinations confirmed that the girls had been raped. The suspect was charged with two offenses. The first offense was rape, and the second offense was attempted murder because he is a HIV patient who did not use protection.
The suspect is expected to appear in court on Wednesday 11 May. The Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit are investigating the matter. They are assisting the minors to help them recover from the incident.
