Power supply in Maluti-A-Phofung in the Free State, Qwaqwa in particular, is a significant challenge.

These conditions have forced the industrial area employees to break their silence. They chose to display their emotions to the municipality.

One of the affected employees, Mpolokeng Malakoane, says the conditions are incompatible. "We clock in at work in the morning and do nothing because of no electricity. This means we don't get paid at the end of the day," says this disheartened employee.

Another employee, Donald Mosia, says he wastes a lot of money on transport while not being able to work when he arrives at work. He adds that the municipality should come up with a strategy.

According to them, their jobs are on the line due to the poor electricity supply. They claim that their employees are incapable to pay for the hours that they have not worked.

The municipality said that households and businesses should pay their debts. "By so doing, we will be able to pay the debt we have with Eskom and some challenges may be solved," the municipality’s communication unit elaborates.
