Notorious #R30 road remains closed | News Article

The R30 road between Allanridge and Bothaville in the Free State is set to remain closed until a permanent solution is found.

This is according to the Free State MEC for Police, Roads and Transport, William Bulwane, during last night's post presidential Imbizo engagement held at the Bloemfontein Civic Theatre.

Bulwane said that the road has claimed many lives of ordinary citizens and left many families with trauma, including traffic officers who witnessed the incidents.

OFM News previously reported on the closure of the road as a result of numerous accidents and deaths that occurred since the beginning of this year, despite warnings.

The department had recently reopened the road for Easter holidays traffic but was forced to close it again following another casualty.

Bulwane reiterated that the road will remain closed as he is not prepared to see more lives being lost on the R30.

"This time I've closed it until I find a permanent solution to the problem; and the permanent solution is to have a bridge. Our engineers are working on that road to make sure that we have a bridge that will make sure that we cross over that water and that we don't have this problem anymore," he adds.

Bulwane had indicated that the deadly R30 was one of the prioritized roads in the current financial year. Bulwane also said that the Department is working overtime together with other stakeholders to ensure that issues that were addressed by residents during the President Cyril Ramaphosa's presidential Imbizo are addressed and this include the issues of deteriorated road infrastructures throughout the Free State.
