Maluti A Phofung staff members appeal court's decision on irregular appointment─── 13:39 Mon, 16 May 2022
Two staff members from the Maluti A Phofung local municipality in the Free State will continue working despite the Free State High Court recently finding that both the Chief Financial Officer and the Municipal Manager were appointed irregularly.
The Council Speaker, Paratlane Motloung says both employees have appealed against the court's decision.
The CFO Matholase Mazinyo and Municipal Manager Futhuli Mothamaha was appointed on the 26th of March 2020 when the municipality was under administration.
The court stated that this was an act of anarchy. The inflated salaries they were awarded were also found to be unlawful and irregular and set aside.
The court ordered the income they each received - which amounts to roughly R1 million each to be repaid within 90 days.
