Deputy Minister in Presidency, Pinky Kekana is expected to visit Deelpan in the Tswaing Local Municipality in Ngaka Modiri Molema District in North West next week Tuesday.

During her visit, she is expected to monitor and assess the extent of the damage caused by floods in the area. According to a statement issued by spokesperson for Department of Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation, Pfumelani Mayimele, Deelpan village in the Ngaka Modiri Molema District experienced their first flood in December 2021, followed by another in February and March this year. Mayimele says the floods were caused by heavy rainfall flowing into the village from other areas, as well a saturated ground water table.

Mayimele says that Kekana will be briefed by the Disaster Management Team on their plans for the area and also conduct a walk-about the flood-stricken village.

He says Kekana will be accompanied by Deputy Minister of Health, Sibongiseni Dlhomo, Deputy Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Obed Bapela and Deputy Minister of Human Settlement, Pamela Tshwete.

Meanwhile, the Education Department in North West has asked the public to assist the community of Deelpan village with donations. Spokesperson in the province, Elias Malindi, says donations can be delivered to the offices of Department of Education, or the office of Dr S Mvula in Garona Building, on the first floor before Wednesday 25 May 2022.
