Free State Premier Sisi Ntombela

Free State Premier Sisi Ntombela will host a provincial imbizo today in Namahadi in the Mafube municipality.

The Executive Committee (EXCO), heads of department, mayors, councillors and other stakeholders will all be in attendance. Spokesperson to the Premier, Palesa Chubisi, tells OFM News that the purpose of the imbizo is for government to assess service delivery in the municipality following the President’s recent visit.

“The Premier has emphasized that provincial Government has visited this municipality on a previous occasion. They know and understand the problems that are there, particularly of infrastructure and shortage of water. So they are going back to announce intervention programmes by the provincial government”.

Meanwhile, a Frankfort resident says they have lost all hope in the government following a number of unfulfilled promises. Leoma Mphuthi who spoke on behalf of the community said the situation is worsening. He explains that apart from infrastructure problems and water challenges, there are much pressing issues such as unemployment.

He also said the government should recognise and support their ‘Batlokoa Ba Mokgalong Local Traditional Council, as it aims to support government in improving service delivery.

“We’d like the Premier to touch base on the establishment of a local council that will advocate the issue of Batloka Ba Mokgalong community as stakeholders. This, according to Framework Act 41 of 2003, Section 2 and 3.

Also to touch base on exclusion of Batloka Ba Mokgalong as decisionmakers in terms of development, as per Municipality System Act 22 of 2000, section 16 and 17.”
