Residents of Tswelelang Township near Wolmaransstad in the North West, are being affected by a municipal workers strike that has been ongoing for almost a month.

Sewage spillages are reportedly overflowing into people's yards, while refuse is also not collected and water shortage continue.

Speaking to OFM news, Imatu Secretary Collen Mafulako said they will go back to work once the municipality guarantees to look into their job evaluation demands.

Maquassi-Hills local municipality has in response to their memorandum indicated that it cannot at this stage make a decision on job evaluation, and that only after the May 27 they will make a decision.

OFM News have been informed that striking workers are alleged to have burned a transformer.

North West premier Bushy Maape’s spokesperson, Sello Tatai, told OFM News Maape has established a team consisting of MECs Motlalepule Rosho, Sello Lehari, and Lenah Miga, to handle the matter.

Last week both officials from both unions, Samwu and Imatu, and the municipal executive held numerous meetings. They could however not reach an agreement.
