A DA Proportional (PR) councillor in Letsemeng Local Municipality, which includes Petrusburg, is out on a warning.
A DA Proportional (PR) councillor in Letsemeng Local Municipality, which includes Petrusburg, is out on a warning.
This, after he was arrested on a domestic abuse charge filed by her wife at the weekend.
Free State Police spokesperson, Lorraine Earle, says the 39-year-old- councillor, Thabo Vincent Nthapo, appeared in the Petrusburg Magistrate’s Court on a charge of Common Assault. She says Nthapho’s case was postponed to 6 June 2022.
Meanwhile, the DA provincial leader, Roy Jankielsonh, on Monday told OFM News the party had already commissioned its Constituency Head to investigate the matter. Nthapo could find himself in trouble with the party following his arrest on said charges.
His arrest comes amidst concerns about the killing of women and young girls in the country at the hands of their loved ones.
In February Premier Sisi Ntombela urged residents to regain and claim their communities from the grasp of criminals.
She made this statement during her visit to the family of a 65-year-old woman who was found murdered in JB Mafora in Bloemfontein.
Ntombela said the victim, who has since been identified as Nomvula Nthabi, was in her home - where she ought to have been safe.
