Mangaung residents will breathe a sigh of relief over issues of permanent accommodation.

This, as the Deputy Minister of Human Settlement, Pamela Tshwete, will be in the Free State to hand over title deeds to residents of Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality on Friday. According to a statement issued by the Department, the event will form part of execution of outstanding issues pertaining post-Presidential Imbizo that took place earlier this year. Tshwete will be accompanied by MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) in the Free State, Mxolisi Dukwana, together with Metro Deputy Mayor, Mapaseka Nkoane.

Minister of Human Settlement, Moloko Kubayi, had previously acknowledged that her department had received a report of unfinished projects and as a result, many residents are left stranded after being placed on the waiting list.

Kubayi had also said that the department will have to re-allocate some of the money for unfinished projects in Mangaung so that residents get their houses.

This follows after OFM News reported that Kubayi had vowed to deal with lingering issues of housing and subsidies in Mangaung.

Meanwhile the impoverished residents who have called Caleb Motshabi (also known as “Dinaweng”) their temporary home for some time, had watched helplessly as “strangers” allegedly scored housing sites ahead of them at the Klipfontein Farm across from the R702 road, which merges into the M3, despite allegedly not being on the list.

The Mangaung Metro had purchased the farm to ensure that residents who have built shacks on top of major BloemWater pipelines that endanger their lives, can be legally assigned to safer sites.
