The power and water supply interruptions started on Thursday.

In a statement, the Emfuleni Local Municipality elaborated that the power supply interruptions follows after Eskom in the Sedibeng region imposed a power supply curtailment to the municipality as a credit control measure.

In a statement released by Eskom earlier this year, it indicated that the municipality's debt was standing at R4.4 billion.

The municipality further stated that the action by Eskom has severely affected the Sonland Park substation which supplies power to Rand Water.

Rand Waters' Langerand reservoir is sitting at 0.00% as a result.
