Petrus Cornelius Rudolph Classens (27) will remain in custody until this coming Monday, after making a brief appearance before the Klerksdorp Magistrate’s Court on a charge of being in possession of gold concentrate.
The accused' court appearance stems from his apprehension this past Friday.
Members of the Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Illicit Mining Unit as well as the Directorate for Priority Crimes and Investigation (DPCI) followed up on information about an illegal gold processing plant at a house in Dawkinsville, Klerksdorp.
Upon searching the house, 50kg of gold bearing material, equipment, and other substances used to process gold were found.
Subsequently, Classens was arrested and charged.
He will lodge a formal bail application during his next court appearance.
The DPCI’s investigation continues.
