More focus has been placed into the upgrading of informal settlements by Mangaung Metro Municipality.

While delivering the Metro's budget speech, Mayor Mxolisi Siyinzana announced that they will be moving with speed to upgrade informal settlements.

Meanwhile the African Alliance of Social Democrats' (AASD), Lucky Mongale lashed out at Metro for being inconsiderate of towns such as Botshabelo and Thaba 'Nchu. He said the Metro only focuses on Bloemfontein when it comes to addressing issues of infrastructure and informal settlements amongst others.

"This budget must be about people of Botshabelo. Those who have been told that the bucket system will be eradicated, those who have been given the false statement that the pit latrine will be eradicated... but it has not been removed. Even today the budget is not even talking about it," adds Mongale.
