Employees of the Mangaung Metro Municipality have once again barricaded the entrance and exit of the municipality's headquarters at the Bram Fischer building with cars.

It is at the moment unclear what the employees were protesting for.

There was no way for motorists to gain access to the parking lot of the building or for other employees to leave with their vehicles.

Protestors refused to give reasons as to why they were protesting.

OFM News has sent an enquiry to the metro for comment.

The political staff of the metro had previously launched a two-day protest for non-payment of salaries.

The previous protest, that was staged by more than 100 people, followed after a meeting with the Head of the Department (HOD) of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta), Mokete Duma, and the then acting City Manager (CM), Mzingisi Nkungwana.

Workers told OFM News they were yet to receive their salaries for February whilst those who got paid in January only received half of their salaries.

The protesters, who were using cars to block all the entrances, caused a halt to services since no one can enter or exit the premises.

Duma previously said several issues resulted in the late payments to political staff.

Staff members who spoke to OFM News say they were set to receive SMS notifications of the payments but they are yet to receive that.

This is a developing story.
