The Northern Cape government is seeking international partners to address the immense unemployment rate and improve the economy of the province.

Premier Zamani Saul, together with members of the Executive Council, Abraham Vosloo and Zolile Monakali, joined by the Mayor of Siyethemba Municipality, Andrew Phillips, met with international investors of Thyssenkrupp Group in Essen, Germany, on Monday.

According to a statement issued, the Thyssenkrupp Group - which is an international leader in Green hydrogen and Ammonia Technology - and the partner for CENEC, Mahlako and the IDC, will build the Prieska Power Reserve (PPR) Industrial complex in Prieska, in the Siyethemba municipal area.

The project, valued at R9.7 billion, is expected to create 22 000 jobs. The provincial government says that 27.5% and 35% will be directly or indirectly allocated to young people and women respectively.

The SMME's will also benefit from the R2,3 billion which will be sourced locally.

The provincial government further adds that the project will uplift the socio-economy of Prieska and will up-skill the youth.

Furthermore, the provincial government adds that in the joint venture with CENEC and Mahlako, it will be ensuring that the youth is placed in a training programme which will start in January 2023.
