#TruckDrivers block N3 in Free State─── KEKELETSO MOSEBETSI 09:50 Tue, 14 Jun 2022
The N3 toll route in the vicinity of the Roadside/Reitz Interchange between Warden and Villiers in the Free State is currently closed.
The N3 Toll Concession Operations Manager, Thania Dhoogra, says that the trucks are blocking the road in both north- and southbound directions. She says the motivation behind the blocking of the road is unconfirmed at this stage.
Dhoogra says the current traffic backlog has extended to more than 5km in each direction. She says law enforcement agencies are currently monitoring the situation. Dhoogra further urged road users to expect extensive traffic delays and to approach the area with caution.
Free State police spokesperson Motantsi Makhele has in the meantime told OFM News the truck drivers are protesting about foreign nationals being hired as truck drivers. He adds they are just standing around, chatting.
LATEST UPDATE: The N3 roads between Warden and Villiers obstructed by protesting truck drivers this morning have been re-opened. Several trucks blocked the N3 freeway at Roadside between Warden and Villiers since early this morning. The South Africa Police Service is on the ground monitoring the situation.
