North West department not able to fix all flood-affected roads─── 13:34 Tue, 21 Jun 2022
The North West Department of Roads and Public Works has indicated that their 2022/23 budget will not allow them to repair all roads affected by the recent floods.
MEC Oageng Molapisi says only 40 flood-affected roads will be fixed in this financial year.
At the beginning of the year, floods hit parts of Deelpan in Tswaing, and the N18 between Mahikeng and Vryburg was affected.
The Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs has been working with the Department of Roads and Public Works to fix roads in Deelpan, as the area was not accessible.
MEC Molapisi says his department will do its best, citing that if the National Department of Transport does not assist, it will be difficult to fix all flood-damaged roads.
OFM News has learnt that currently, the department has appointed contractors to fix the road between Potchefstroom and Fochville, the 21km project cost R126 million.
