FS Destea intensifies youth assistance─── KEKELETSO MOSEBETSI 07:05 Wed, 22 Jun 2022

The Free Department of Small Business Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (Destea) has taken major steps towards changing lives of young people.
This after MEC Makalo Mohale's recent introduction of an outreach programme aimed at improving living conditions of young people in the province.
Mohale is expected to host another outreach programme in Memel Stadium near the Phumelela Municipality's offices on Friday, following the first outreach programme held in Phillipolis, in the Kopanong Local Municipality.
In a statement, Mohale says the initiative of the outreach programme seeks to support seven identified local businesses with financial injections after being profiled and capacitated to ensure that such businesses remain sustainable.
He adds that the programme will also entail a general cleaning of the township and the eradication of illegal dumping sites.
“As the Department, we are operating within limited resources hence we are intending to uplift and support local businesses, especially focusing on disadvantaged and rural areas around municipalities such as Kopanong, Phumelela, Masilonyana, Setsoto and Tokologo because the youth of today, unlike those of 1976, are faced with more complex challenges being unemployment, drugs and alcohol abuse,” he adds.
He further states that there will also be interactive exhibition stalls for young people intending to venture into business as well as registration, compliant processes and consumer affairs.
“With the support of the relevant stakeholders and commitment from the young people, we will enhance specific methods and tested approaches of improving our economic sectors. We will develop and implement systems that will take our province towards a positive developmental trajectory.
"I call on all stakeholders to continue to support us to achieve the objectives and mandate of the department," concludes Mohale.
