Police officer on sick leave after suspect’s alleged biting─── 16:03 Thu, 23 Jun 2022
A police officer from Bothaville is reportedly on sick leave after allegedly being bitten by a suspect.
The officer responded to a reported theft at a local school. SAPS spokesperson Stephen Thakeng told OFM News that the suspect was reportedly aggressive upon arrival of the police, as he refused to be arrested.
“The suspect confirmed to OFM News that he did bite the police officer. He says the reason he bit him was because the police officers were beating him up too aggressively, that he felt like he was going to die. Furthermore, he says he was beaten until he was unconscious, and was thrown into a jail cell. He explained that he regained consciousness the following day in the afternoon, and was not given any medical attention until he got released and took himself to a hospital.”
The suspect was reportedly stealing scrap metal from the local school on 19 June 2022 when the police arrested him. He was reportedly high on drugs and violent.
