#GBV: NW man slapped with heavy sentence | News Article

A 35-year-old North West man has been handed a hefty sentence after he was found guilty of murdering his girlfriend.

North West police spokesperson Adele Myburgh says the Rustenburg Magistrate’s Court handed the accused Mafisa Kgantso 15-years imprisonment for killing the 30-year-old Ntswaki Matsobe and assaulting Bochire Ramoadha. She says Kgantso was also declared unfit to possess a firearm in terms of Section 103 of the Firearms Control Act.

According to Myburgh, the court heard evidence that the convicted Kgantso and his girlfriend had an argument in the early hours of Saturday morning, 21 September 2019, at a tavern in Boitekong, close to Rustenburg. She says Kgantso accused his girlfriend of having affair, attacked and stabbed her several times and thereafter, stabbed Ramoadha.

Myburg adds that investigations that were conducted by the police led to the arrest of Kgantso a day after the incident was reported. She further adds that Kgantso was found guilty of murder and assault, with the intent to do grievous bodily harm and ultimately sentenced to 15-years imprisonment for murder and 12 years for the assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm.
