#ChildTragedy: Body of toddler in shallow grave | News Article

Tragedy has hit the small-town of Blydeville near Lichtenburg in North West as the body of 2-year-old boy has been found in a shallow grave.

According to police spokesperson, Amanda Funani, the toddler was found in a shallow grave on Tuesday with his body already in a decomposed state.

She says the body of Neo Refemetswe Tlhame, was dug out by police near the river in that area and was identified by his mother who was able to identify him by his clothes.

Tlhame apparently went missing two months ago - in May - after his mother noticed his disappearance. No one has been arrested at this stage and the cause of death is still unknown.

According Funani to the information given to the police indicates that the police were called by Neo’s mother after they spotted a suspicious grave near the river.

"The grave was dug out and the body of young Neo was identified with the clothes that he was wearing on the day of his disappearance.

"Neo, who was with his grandparents, went missing on Tuesday, 24 May 2022, but his disappearance was established by his mother when she went to fetch him after work and subsequent to the fruitless search by community members and Neo’s family, a missing person enquiry was opened for investigation,” she adds.

The cause of death is still unknown and no one has been arrested. Meanwhile, the Provincial Police Commissioner, Sello Kwena, condemned the incident and urged the Lichtenburg detectives to do everything in their power to arrest the perpetrators of this crime.
