Water levels improve at Maquassi-Hills

Water levels improve at Maquassi-Hills | News Article

After two weeks of water struggles in parts of the Maquassi-Hills local municipality, North West, residents have been assured the problem is receiving attention.

Residents at Lebaleng in Makwassi, Tswelelang near Wolmaranstaad and Kgakala near Leeudoringstad have been experiencing water shortages.

This led to residents of Lebaleng extension 6 having to fetch water from open manholes. The municipality reported that due to vandalism of pipelines, water levels dropped.

Resident Kagiso Serame says the problem should be attended to with urgency, as without water it is difficult to do household chores.

An official at the municipality told OFM News that water levels today are above 70%, and that many parts of township in Maquassi-Hills are receiving water.

They however add that due to load shedding, reservoirs are taking longer to fill up, leading to continued water shortages in other areas.

OFM News has learned that the Sedibeng Water pipeline maintenance team is in the area to work on vandalised pipelines.

Meanwhile, residents in the area are not happy with water being supplied to them by trucks, citing that water supply should be restored fully instead of paying a service provider.
